Default Stories of the Season

I have been wanting to create an album for the Advent/Christmas season. I have seen various options including a December Daily for telling the stories of December. I have seen journaling the season options. While they sound like good ideas, I know I won't follow through on them. Instead, I am going to create a book with stories from the season. I am thinking it will hold a variety of things from the program for the choir concert DH is singing in on the weekend to favorite recipes and thoughts on events.

I'd be happy to have others join me on this journey and share ideas as we go through the month to come.

Oh, it would be nice to make a book during the season that could be passed on to each child. My kids are older now (12-16 for the three still at home) but they still don't fully understand the reasons I have us do Advent each year. They get the big picture, but not the little ideas.

Ok, just thinking here about how this might work for my family....

Overview of the family history as related to Christmas and Advent.

Double pages with weekly study ideas - this would be suggested Bible passages to read each week at Advent.

Favorite family music for Christmas/Advent.

Recipes for Christmas/Advent.

More family stories about Christmas/Advent and the season in general.

And of course, LOTS of pictures. Including documenting the Nativity sets.

Each year, I try to find study material online, but nothing exactly fits my needs. My dh is Catholic and I am Baptist. I grew up doing Advent, but never in the Catholic way - and dh is fine with us making it right for our family. For example, we use white candles for the four weeks - to emphasize that Christ came as a light to the world (rather than the pink/purple candles the Catholics traditionally use.)

Lots of good ideas there Paula.

I am hoping to get some input from my Mom on some of the traditions we had growing up and why her and Dad chose those traditions. I think it will be neat to compare then and now. I know we had a non-breakable Nativity set so we could use it to tell the Christmas story. Touching the tree was a no no, but touching the Nativity set was encouraged.
