Font Free 4 All Challenge- August 2005

Let's do something fun - and a perhaps a bit more challenging - for this month... dingbats!

A dingbat font is essentially a font of pictures. Every letter on your keyboard will correspond to a different picture and will show up as that picture when you type. You can load a dingbat on your computer the same way you load a regular font. Sometimes, the dingbat's designer will even be helpful and give you a key to the font... other times, you are pleasantly surprised and it can be fun to just type along and see what comes out!

Many dingbat fonts are very theme specific, you'll find tons for holidays, for instance. For this month, I've chosen a dingbat that has a more universal appeal.

Remember that you can edit the dingbat just as you do your regular text, so don't be afraid to experiment with adding a bevel/emboss, drop shadows, etc.

The font for this month's challenge is "Expressionism" by Jeff Levine. The following is the direct download link:

Naturally, you won't be using this particular font in your journaling, but I'm very excited to see what uses you will come up with for it.

Hi Christina, Sorry to bother you but i hvae unzziped 2 times the file in my fonts file, but i can't see the "xprssion" when i try to type in the backfround something , imean, i dont see the name in there???
could you help me with this to see how this fonts looks like so i can identify it

In case anyone else has the same problem....

open the zip on your desktop and then copy/paste or drag the font into your font folder.

Well this one is going to be a real challenge. I have never used dingbats before. I looked on the page that showed some of his other dingbats and might have to try them as well though.

***Here's a tip: If you want to know what the pics in the digbats are in ABC order you can print out an A-Z list using the "font thing" program. Kathy Smith has a link and tutorial on how to use the program listed on her homepage at her website. Scroll to the bottom on the left hand side. http://www.kathysmithstudio.com/

I have used this program for well over a year now and have a book full of samples of all my fonts! :wink:

:( I cannot get the font to install in my fonts folder at all! I have a layout all ready to go except the font part to add and I have tried everything to get it to work. Copy/Paste, redownloading, downloading to desktop....nothing works. HELP! :shock:

Just thought you might be looking up the wrong font because I did...it's expressionismJL. Maybe this isn't the problem, but figured I'd share.
