Several years ago, a dear friend of mine was diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer. It got so he loved to sit in his wife's gardens in the morning and listen to the birds sing in the day, and watch the butterflies as the day wore on. One fine summer day I brought my camera to the house and spent the whole day with him, his wife, and his 4 year old daughter. We sang, we played games, we laughed, and we cried. It was a great day. I took all the photos I had taken that day and put together an album called "A Day in the Life...". He absolutely loved it and his wife and daughter have a wonderful keepsake.
Think about an album like this for not so sad occasions. Spend the day with your Mom, your Dad, your Grandma, or Grandpa, or maybe a favorite Aunt or Uncle--anyone that you admire. What is a typical day like for this person? What stories from their past can you coax them into revealing? What is their job like? What do they like to do in their down time? Do they have a favorite hobby? Do they have a talent they would like to share? Bring a pad and pencil and of course, your camera. Put together an "A Day in the Life..." album for them (and don't forget to make a copy for yourself). It will be time well spent, and the time you spend with that person just might make their day.
