by Veronica Culley Digitals Designer Scrapbooking is a wonderful and fun way to save memories of course you probably already know that being a visitor to Digitals, but most of us are busy keeping track of the firsts for our children or even cute things our pets do and forgetting about ourselves. Whether you have pictures of yourself or not you still have a story to tell and creating a scrapbook about you is the perfect way to do it. If you’re a little skeptical about telling your story keep reading as I will tell you why you should create an "About Me" scrapbook, give you some ideas on what types of layouts you could do and let you know how Digitals can help you with the process.
Your story is important and everyone has one to tell. So you’re not exactly some famous super star but you’re very important in the eyes of your child, perhaps even their hero. A scrapbook about you could fill in some details for your children to help them understand who you are and what you have been through. I know that little children can’t even believe we were ever as small as they are and older children don’t think we understand a thing they are going through, a scrapbook will give them a fun way to learn that you were once like them and be a wonderful gift for their own children some day. I myself know very little about my own mothers life and my grandmother… well, I couldn’t speak the same language so while I will always love her dearly I know even less about her, but I long to know more. My desire to know more tells me that someday my children may be grateful to have a scrapbook filled with stories of my life to give them a personal insight to a time they weren’t present for and I’m sure that your children would be grateful, too.
If you don’t have any children, a personal scrapbook could still be a lot of fun for you to create. You could use it as a tool to get to know yourself better. Perhaps going over the things you have done in your life to celebrate what you have accomplished or to figure out what you want to do next in life. Don’t forget that you are somebody’s baby and are probably still a miracle in the eyes of your parents. Imagine what fun you could have at your next family get together reminiscing about the past while looking through your scrapbook pages. We all remember different things and you may remind your parents of moments that they forgot all about. Sometimes it’s even fun to laugh about those moments in the past that weren’t so funny then!
There are many events, ideas and thoughts that you should scrapbook. If you have kept a diary, you’ve got a book full of things to scrapbook already. If you’re like me and could never discipline yourself enough to keep one, don’t fret…you can still recall the past and scrap it, the words and feelings of the moment just won’t be as fresh. By all means, though, don’t let too much more time get in between those important events or moments and the time you actually get those thoughts down on paper. Below is a short list of some types of layouts you could start working on.
Events that you feel made you who you are today
Things that mean the most to you
Favorites (musicians, movies, food)
Accomplishments you are most proud of
School highlights
World events from your lifetime and how you felt about them
Your firsts (car, job, home)
Bad or hard times in your life (While you may have no pictures these moments are part of who you are and should be captured, too.)
And don’t forget to take a look at some of the great kits and challenges available at Digitals. There are many to choose from that would be perfect for your book! |
