Continuing in our series to get your acquainted with the Digitals Designers, we bring you Lucy Hampton. She has been with Digitals since early on. She participates in our charity kits, and has some great kits on sale in our store. Read on to learn more about her vintage style in the interview.
Q. Tell us about yourself and your family: A. My name is Lucy Hampton. I am married to my dh for 31 years. I am a color pencil artist currently taking watercolor classes in art school. This is how I actually started out doing digital scrapbooking by offering my art for scrapbookers and crafting people. So I decided to try my own layouts creating backgrounds and elements in Paint Shop Pro which I have been using for 6 years. So combining the two and my love of vntage art, I create layouts with an elegant vintage theme! I currently have a website Elegant Designs Art selling licenses to use my color pencil and watercolor art! I love paper crafting and crocheting. I love sewing and have done it since I was 11 or 12 and I was a dressmaker and tailored and sewed for local fabric store and for private customers, myself and my husband.
Q. How long have you been scrapbooking (paper & digital)? A. I've been doing scrapbooking about a year now, and digital 6 - 8 months. I started off in swaps with themed scrapbook pages and found I loved doing it.
Q. What is your scrapbooking/design/craft background?
A. I've always loved to craft, when I was little I used to create 3D scales of homes made of notebook paper and scotch tape and they looked great. Then I learned to crochet and sew and then got the computer and started doing swaps and getting creative with paper crafting and that led of course to scrapbooking. Then into color pencil artwork for cards and scrapbooking for a business and other hobbies. It lead me into the actual scrapbooking world and doing it myself.
Q. What software do you use? A. I started off with Paint Shop Pro v 6. and have upgraded to each new version including v 9.0, but I have branched out into Adobe Photoshop Elements 2 and now 3.0 and also Ulead's PhotoImpact. Each has some unique things they do so I combine them all to create my scrap kits!
Q. How many layouts do you average per month? A. That depends on how much time I have and how I feel. I try to create at least 2 per week but that doesn't always happen. I also like to do printables using my vintage postcard collection.
Q. Why do you like to create elements/kits? A. I love coordinating and also using vintage art and vintage things like lace and love elegance and combining those things is just such a release of stress and tension as well as doing something good with that stress to create something beautiful and of course I love all the compliments I get on the kits. But I imagine myself using them for my photos as well and I want them beautiful. I also love the whole creative process which is to make something from almost nothing, well not really but to create something entirely new from something different, like a dress from fabric! Cards from plain paper.
Q. How would you describe your style? A. Vintage, elegant, beautiful, realistic, Victorian, just about anything that describes the era of elegance! Laces, shiny gold elements, pretty papers.
Q. Who/what inspires you when you create? A. Vintage artwork inspires me. And right now Catherine Klein artwork is very inspiring as I am collecting her vintage art postcards.
Q. What is the best thing about scrapbooking? A. Creative outlet. I love creative outlets and creating beauty.
